IPTV Questions What you can watch
Can I get French channels with IPTV?
What French-language channels can you watch on IPTV?
Providers group them by type rather than by network, so look for these categories in the channel list:
- Quebec news and public affairs, including regional newscasts
- French Canadian sports channels with French commentary
- Variety, game shows, reality TV and téléromans
- Kids and family channels in French (jeunesse)
- French movies and series on demand, plus French audio on some international films
- Programming from France, Belgium and Switzerland, plus Haitian and West African stations in French
Line-ups vary between services and shift over time, so compare the categories with what your household watches. Our channel lineup by category lets you filter by "Français".
Do French Canadian channels work on a TV box?
Yes. Any Android TV box, Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Formuler or MAG box, or Smart TV that runs an IPTV app can play them. The language comes from the stream, not the device. To find them quickly:
- Open Live TV in your player and scroll the category list to the French or Québec groups.
- Long-press the channels you watch most and add them to Favourites to pin them first in the list.
- For films, use the audio button during playback to pick a French track when the title has one, and the subtitle button for French captions.
Many players can also show their own menus in French through their settings, and on Android TV the system language changes some apps too. New to this? Follow our first sign-in steps for an Android TV box.
Who watches French-language IPTV in Canada?
A lot of people. About one in five Canadians has French as their first official language, according to Statistics Canada's 2021 Census results. Most live in Quebec, but there are large francophone communities in eastern and northern Ontario, New Brunswick and Manitoba. Bilingual families, French-immersion students practising at home and newcomers from France, Haiti and francophone Africa watch too. Local pages for IPTV in Quebec and IPTV in Montreal cover regional channels and internet providers.
How does King IPTV handle French channels?
You get French channels with Full Channels, our complete list. English Channels Only trims the list for homes that never watch in French, so choose Full Channels at checkout if anyone in the family wants French TV. Both packages cost the same.
The TV guide covers French channels like the rest of the list. Our team works in both official languages; write in French through Live Chat or email, every day from 9 a.m. to midnight Eastern. Want to see the French groups first? Request the one-day free trial and browse them on your own screen.
Questions about watching in French
Are French channels on IPTV in HD?
Most are in HD or Full HD, the same as English channels. A few events and films are available in 4K, but only when the broadcaster produces them in 4K. Picture quality also depends on your internet: allow roughly 10 Mbps per HD stream, and use a wired connection for live sports.
Can I watch hockey with French commentary on IPTV?
Often, yes. French Canadian sports channels carry many games with French commentary, especially for teams with a large French-speaking audience. Which games appear on which channel depends on who holds the broadcast rights each season, and regional rules can apply, so check the TV guide on game day for the French listing.
Can I switch between French and English channels on one subscription?
Yes. With a full channel list, French and English channels sit side by side in the same app, so one person can watch the news in French while another watches a game in English on a second screen. You only need a plan with enough screens for everyone watching at once.
